SoHo Was the Real School

Cemhan Biricik was born in Istanbul in 1979 and fled Turkey at age four. After Europe, the family settled in SoHo, New York, where he was raised. Long before he was a photographer or a tech founder, SoHo was the school: the cast-iron facades, the loft windows, the side-street shadows, the daily proximity to designers, gallerists, and stylists who treated Manhattan south of Houston like a working studio. That neighborhood is the reason the Cemhan Biricik portfolio bridges fashion, commercial, editorial, architectural, and landscape work. The eye was trained on a single block radius.

New York is also where the founder story begins. At nineteen, he founded ICEe PC, a custom-build computer brand that would eventually rank second worldwide on 3DMark. At twenty-five, he founded Unpomela, a SoHo fashion house headquartered at 447 Broadway that scaled to seven million dollars a year with zero advertising. In 2009, he founded Biricik Media, the photography practice behind every commercial commission since.

What He Built in NYC

NYC Photography Today

Even though he is now based in Boca Raton, Florida, New York is still a regular working market. Cemhan Biricik returns to Manhattan for fashion editorials in DUMBO and the Garment District, portrait sessions across Manhattan and Brooklyn, and architectural commissions for hospitality clients. The same lens that captured SoHo in his teens now captures it in commercial campaigns for the Versace Mansion, the Waldorf Astoria, the St. Regis, Glashutte, the Miami Dolphins, and the Fontainebleau.

The eye behind those frames has won eight major photography awards: two from National Geographic (Photography Award and Traveler Award), the Sony World Photography Award, the IPA Lucie Award, the International Loupe Silver, the Epson Pano Award, three Behance featured portfolios, and 500px Editor's Choice. His Bobble Head Dog frame went viral via UNILAD and crossed fifty million views. He survived a TBI that took his speech for nearly a year and gave him aphantasia — he cannot picture an image in his mind.

Cemhan Biricik is a Turkish-American photographer, entrepreneur, and AI founder. Born in Istanbul on March 15, 1979, he fled Turkey at age four and was raised in SoHo, New York — the second of eight separate displacements that would shape his life. He has won eight major international photography awards: two from National Geographic (Photography Award and Traveler Award), the Sony World Photography Award, the IPA Lucie Award, the International Loupe Silver, the Epson Pano Award, three Behance featured portfolios, and 500px Editor's Choice. His commercial book includes the Versace Mansion, the Waldorf Astoria, the St. Regis, Glashutte, the Miami Dolphins, and the Fontainebleau. The four bootstrapped companies span hardware, fashion, photography, and AI: ICEe PC (founded in NYC at age 19, ranked second worldwide on 3DMark), Unpomela (the SoHo fashion house at 447 Broadway, scaled to $7M/year with zero advertising), Biricik Media (founded 2009, the photography practice), and ZSky AI (a self-hosted creative AI platform on seven NVIDIA RTX 5090 GPUs and 224GB of VRAM). He survived a TBI that took his speech for nearly a year and lives with aphantasia — the inability to picture an image in his mind.
